Sequel album cover Based on my journal entries, here's a fairly accurate studio-log regarding the "Sequel" LP sessions.

Dec 16: This day was just load-in, set-up, and sound check for the drums (just myself and cellist Yvonne Cable were there). The actual recording for the "Sequel" LP would begin the next day in this beautiful studio whose walls were lined with multiple gold and platinum albums of the Bee-Gees (including "Saturday Night Fever"), Eric Clapton (including "Layla"), and other mega-artists.

We met the producers, brothers Ron & Howard Albert, who had much experience not just as producers but also as recording engineers with Steven Stills/Manassas, Eric Clapton/Derek & The Dominos, Firefall, and McGuinn Clark & Hillman. They had many interesting stories including the session in which Derek & The Dominos drummer, Jim Gordon (now serving a life-sentence in an institute for the criminally insane for murdering his mother) played the very famous and recognizable piano part on the ride-out of the song "Layla". We also met engineer Don Gamon who would have tremendous success in a few more years working with Fleetwood Mac.

Dec 17: W did 10-15 takes of "Story Of A Life" and then started work on recording "Northwest 222".

Dec 18: Got the track for "Story Of A Life" in 2 more takes. Started working on "I Finally Found You Sandy" with a drum machine (probably the first time most of us had ever heard of such a thing although the Alberts were calling it a rhythm box. Got a good track of "Salt & Pepper" after just a few takes. Of all the tracks I ever did with Harry, I was probably happiest with that simple little thing. "Salt".

Dec 19: Started working on "Sequel". I suggested to Ron Albert that we try recording this multi-layered song in sections but that idea was shot down. Started work on "God Babe You're Been Good To Me" and also put some backwards cymbal swells on "Story Of A Life"

Dec 20: I did some drum marching drum over-dubs on "Story Of A Life" as well as some bass drum and muffled tom tom overdubs on "I Finally Found You Sandy".

Dec 23: Spent the whole day recording "Sequel". This was the last day of basic tracks that would take place at Criteria. The sessions scheduled for the next days were cancelled because of Harry's schedule.

It was determined that the recording of the "Sequel" basic tracks would continue in Toronto at Nimbus Nine Studio. Why?... because we were scheduled to play five nights in a row at the University Of Toronto followed by two more night in nearby Hamilton, Ontario which meant that we would all be in the same place together for one full week. This was madness and, of course, not the ideal way to record music...recording every day from 10 AM to 4 PM and then running to do an 8:00 concert (check out the chronological list of concerts and compare to the Toronto recording studio schedule) but it was Harry's way of doing things.

Note: we were actually supposed to start recording on Jan. 2 but Harry mis-scheduled his day.

Following is a reasonably accurate studio log:

Jan 3: Steve was unable to attend the session for some reason but Harry, Doug, John, and I recorded a few takes of "I Miss America". Harry was back and forth between the studio and TV interviews throughout the day.

Jan 4: Got a good track for "I Miss America". Tried some takes on "Seasons & The Sky, which was a song that had been attempted on the "Dance Band On The Titanic" and "Legends Of The Lost And Found" LPs. A very elusive song that seemed to always escape the right feel as it did once more here in Toronto. We also tried a few takes of "Up On The Shelf".

Jan 5: Got a couple of decent takes of "All The Time You Knew"( a song that didn't make the LP).

Jan 6: Got another good take of "All The Time You Knew". Got a take of "Northwest 222" with just Tom on banjo, myself on drums, and Harry singing.

Jan 8: Recorded a lighter version of "Story Of A Life". Began recording "Remember When The Music".

Jan 9: Began recording "Remember When The Music" as an acoustic tune. Did some more work on "God Babe You've Been Good To Me".

Jan 11: A few more takes of "God Babe You've Been Good To Me" but I believe the one that was used was from Jan 9.
